Making Fitness Fun

We’re a month into the new year and statistically, 80% of people have already given up on their New Year’s resolution. If your goal involves fitness and you find yourself starting to waver, find a way to make your fitness routine fun so you remain motivated throughout the year.

Join a class – Group fitness classes make working out fun by creating an energetic atmosphere in which you can work out with old friends and make new ones! Appropriate for all fitness levels, group fitness allows participants to adapt and modify exercises as needed under the guidance of a certified instructor.

Create a playlist – Studies suggest that listening to fast-tempo music while exercising increases endurance and decreases feelings of fatigue. Listening to your favorite music will keep you motivated even when workouts get hard!

Make it a game – Many smart watches, such as Fitbit or Garmin, allow you to compete with your friends to complete fitness challenges, such as who can take more steps. If you prefer games to friendly competition, there are several apps that allow you to turn exercise into a game by “leveling up” to advance through the game.

Be accountable – Mark your workouts in your calendar or find a workout buddy to keep you on track. Group fitness is a great way to keep accountable – classes are already scheduled for you! HIIT classes provide a full-body workout in a short period of time by alternating high-intensity movements with brief rest periods, a great option for those short on time.

Remember why you started – Keep motivated by keeping your purpose in mind. Whether you made this goal to get generally healthier, accomplish a specific fitness goal, or anything in between, focusing on your “why” will help you succeed in your goal.
